Do you want to develop an idea to release the social and economic value of your research through enterprise? Start Something @ UWA will run over three weeks in June.

Since launching at UWA in 2015, Start Something has trained more than 350 researchers, accelerated 96, engaged 64 industry experts and generated 30+ spinouts or project progressions.

In order to participate in Start Something you need to have developed an idea to translate your research through some kind of commercial enterprise (can include social enterprise). We encourage applicants from all disciplines, from science and engineering to humanities. The idea does not have to be fully formed. Learning the process is just as important as the outcome, and your idea is likely to change along the way – often quite radically.

Participation involves attending 4 two-hour workshops over two weeks (at UWA's Perth campus) and then a pitch event celebration. During this time, you’ll develop your idea alongside industry mentors with commercialisation experience in a range of sectors (including healthcare, resources, information technology, engineering and social enterprise). In doing so, you'll develop knowledge, skills and networks to increase the impact of your research.
